Automotive quality management system ISO/TS 16949 standard is upgraded to IATF 16949 and automotive industry members need to gear up for successful transition
IATF HAS PUBLISHED THE NEW STANDARD FOR AUTOMOTIVE QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, IATF 16949, ON 3RD OCTOBER 2016. THE FIRST EDITION OF IATF 16949 REPLACES ISO/TS 16949:2009 STANDARD.
The New IATF 16949:2016 standard is based on new ISO 9001:2015 requirements (*) and developed to complement it in automotive industry, focusing management system enhancement in terms of continuous improvement, risk analysis and prevention and leadership commitment.
The new standard is released keeping in mind the automotive industry actors need to adapt continuously to dynamic environment which requests efficiency and adaptability.
The deadlines to abide by, as put forward by IATF, are:
I. 14th September 2018 is the last date when the validity of ISO/TS 16949:2009 certificate ends.
II. Starting from 1st October 2017, no audits ISO/TS 16949:2009 (initial, surveillance, recertification or transfer) will be possible and accepted.
IATF has also informed that transition audit will be equivalent to recertification audit or certification audit in term of duration.
It has also been reminded that transition audit and transfer audit cannot be done at the same time.
