Chr. Hansen and Bureau Veritas conclude global food safety agreement
Chr. Hansen has elected to gather all its global quality, environmental, health and afety and food safety certification activities with Bureau Veritas Certification. This provides a number of advantages as far as Vice President Winnie Bügel is concerned: “Gathering all our certifications allows us to implement global calibration of our activities. We are now able to benchmark the different production units vis-à-vis each other and share the best working methods, ideas and experiences. Although most of our production units are situated in many different countries, most of them do not solely supply their own region. Since specialised products are often sold in the global market place, it is extremely important for us that all our units supply products of the same high standards of both quality and food safety. This co-operation agreement enables us to give our customers an even higher degree of certainty that the products they receive from us are safe and of high quality. Every time.
According to Bureau Veritas Certification’s Sales and Technical Director Jacob Færgemand, customers are in safe hands at Chr. Hansen. - Chr. Hansen works to extremely high standards. The company is certified in accordance with a wide range of standards relating to quality, environment, health and safety and foods, and it has been a pioneer in a number of areas. This includes, for example, upgrading the Danish food standard DS 3027 to the global ISO 22000 standard, of which the company was among the world’s very first adopters. At the same time, the company has just had its Danish production units certified in accordance with the health and safety standard DS/OHSAS 18001. It is obvious that whatever Chr. Hansen resolves to accomplish, it does not do it by halves. In the food safety field in particular, everything has to be under control. One cannot help notice a determination to get things right. In this sense it is a model company.
As the executive responsible for Bureau Veritas Certification’s activities in the food sector in the Nordic and Baltic regions and the Benelux countries, Mr. Færgemand has followed Chr. Hansen at close quarters and can compare them with many others in the region. They make a tremendous contribution even at the international level. This move has taken them one step further to safe food from the start of the grocery chain.
