June 5, 2009: Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services is pleased to announce that it is participating in World Environment Day (WED) on June 5. To demonstrate its support, the company has launched a campaign aimed at educating its employees around the world in this year’s theme: “Your Planet Needs You – Unite to Combat Climate Change.” Bureau Veritas sites around the globe will host and participate in a number of activities to honor World Environment Day, which is dedicated to the concept of environmental protection for employees, clients, and the general public. Activities scheduled to honor World Environment Day around the world include: - A “Light-Out Event”: Locations in Asia including Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Bangladesh, the Philippines, the U.S. and across Europe are participating in a “Light-Out Event” by turning off lights for one hour on June 5 to signify the importance of energy reduction in preserving the world’s environment. - Other special events at individual locations around the globe include: turning off air conditioning for one hour, switching to recycled tableware, an unveiling of a new bicycle rack to promote the environmental advantages of riding your bike to work; a special raffle for employees who purchase environmental friendly products, start-up of a recycling program for cardboard, plastic, glass and batteries. One of its objectives is to promote an understanding that global communities are pivotal in changing attitudes towards environmental issues.
