ASTM International Publishes New Standard for Baby Monitors
In May 2012, ASTM International, formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), announced the publication of a new safety standard for Baby Monitors. The new standard, designated as ASTM F2951-12, provides safety and labeling requirements for Baby Monitors.
Introduction This safety specification was developed in response to data collected by the CPSC and it attempts to minimize hazards associated with Baby Monitors including strangulation to children as a result of entanglement within the monitor cord. The safety specification requirements are amenable to corded audio and video monitors as well as motion sensor baby monitors. The safety standard for Baby Monitors sets forth the following requirements: General Requirements
All Baby Monitors shall comply with the specified requirements for warning statements on the product, packaging, and within the instructional literature.
