The rules define “flushable” as a nonwoven disposable product that “disperses in a short period of time after flushing in the low-force conditions of a sewer system; is not buoyant; and does not contain plastic or any other material that does not readily degrade in a range of natural environments.”
Also, as of January 1, 2018, manufacturers will be required to label products that are not flushable with a statement indicating, in a clear and conspicuous manner, that the product should not be flushed.
