Bureau Veritas India contributes towards the higher education of hearing impaired students

Jun. 16 2022

As per World Health Organisation,  5% of the world population that comprises of 360 million people worldwide have hearing loss disabilities. Of these numbers, 32 million are children! The prevalence in this age group is greatest in Asia Pacific and sub-Saharan Africa.

The majority of people with disabled hearing live in low and middle-income countries. Survival is of utmost importance for the population in developing countries thus education for the disabled is of least priority. There has been no major revolution in deaf education in this part of the world and the focus needs to be more tuned towards bettering lives of the masses, and providing basic needs to the people.

At Bureau Veritas, we are a firm believer in giving back to society. As part of BV’s global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, Bureau Veritas South Asia Region stood up for the facilitation of education to the hearing impaired students through collaboration with the TEACH Education Trust.

Training and Educational Centre for Hearing impaired (TEACH) is a charitable trust working towards higher education for hearing impaired students. TEACH aim and strive to provide opportunities to the hearing-impaired students and align them to higher education & self-development of deaf children, in-turn help them lead their lives independently and successfully by assisting in their personal, professional and social development. These students are equally capable of doing well academically; however, they lack the exposure that would nurture & showcase their educational & professional talent. TEACH prepares the in-house students to appear for their HSC exams and further continue their education; there is no limit to what these students can achieve with the correct guidance.

To support this foundation in such a big noble cause, Bureau Veritas offered a donation to facilitate TEACH to open a centre for these students and provide the required education.

Bureau Veritas was honoured to welcome the team of TEACH in the Mumbai head office on 24th of May 2022.

The team of TEACH along with 5 of their students were greeted by the steering committee of CSR which also handed over the first cheque to them along with some giveaways for the students.

Bureau Veritas India is proud to be associated with them and thereby contribute to this gallant cause
